In Germany, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper reports the German government is under pressure to end tainted Chinese biofuels imports that are threatening the local industry. A loose alliance of German biofuel manufacturers, environmentalists and lawmakers wants the government to set up an inspection and sanction system by Jan. 1 in order to stem the tide of palm oil-blended biofuel. Germany and the European Union banned palm oil for biofuels back in 2023 while imports from waste-based feedstocks has skyrocketed.
