Germany seen ending UCOME double counting by year’s end

November 12, 2025 |

In Germany, Vesper reports that rules ending double counting for biofuels produced from used cooking oil would come into effect on January 1 when the Renewable Energy Directive III regulations are implemented. Doing so is expected to boost demand for HVO as well as for rapeseed oil, helping to offset lower prices that resulted in a bumper crop this season, while potentially creating a premium for biofuels in the German market. The rules canceling certificates from imports found to be fraudulent could potentially be retroactive for two years.
