German firm presents initiative to produce SAF in Argentina

December 31, 2024 |

In Argentina, Infobae reported that  the announcement of the development of the Eco-Refinerías del Sur (ERS) project was recently made in the Senate. The initiative, led by German company GreenSinnergy seeks to position the province of Chubut as a hub for innovation in renewable energies. The project will use Power to Liquid (PtL) technology for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This process uses wind energy to generate green hydrogen, which, combined with carbon dioxide through the Fischer-Tropsch technique, allows obtaining low-emission liquid fuels. The report also noted that the project will be implemented in three stages. The first will begin with a production of 100,000 tons of SAF per year starting in 2030 and progressively increasing to exceed 500,000 tons per year at its maximum capacity. The first phase involves an initial investment of $2.5 billion, which could exceed $6 billion in the final stage.
