In Portugal, El Periodico de la Energia reports Galp’s refinery in the town of Sines, some 164 kilometers south of Lisbon, has received three reactors for the production of advanced biofuels, the company reported. The reactors have a total weight of more than 500 tons and have already been unloaded at the port of Sines and taken to the Galp refinery, where they are expected to begin producing sustainable aviation fuel and biodiesel from 2026, the company explained in a statement. Galp has indicated that this refinery transformation project is “pioneering” in Europe, as it is the first advanced biofuel production unit integrated into a refining system. The oil company’s plans also include a unit that will generate green hydrogen on an industrial scale, which is under construction at the Sines refinery.
