Fresta and partners launch SAF initiative

April 8, 2025 |

In Japan, Fresta, Kokubu Nishi Nippon Co. Ueda Oil Co and ENEOS Corporation announced that they will jointly carry out a collection and recycling business for used household cooking oil based at Fresta stores in Hiroshima City. Specifically, the business involves collecting household waste cooking oil currently being discarded in Hiroshima City at six Fresta stores in the city, and utilizing Kokubu Nishi Nippon’s logistics network, collecting the waste cooking oil as return cargo on delivery trucks. The collected waste cooking oil will be stored in Kokubu Nishi Nippon’s warehouse, after which it will be picked up by Ueda Oil. In the future, the partners aim to build a supply chain in which ENEOS will use the collected waste cooking oil as a raw material to manufacture SAF, which will then be supplied to the airport. Until the ENEOS plant is operational, Ueda Oil will use the waste cooking oil as a raw material for biodiesel and soap, Fresta said.
