Flying Forest attracts offtaker for SAF plant in Finland

December 16, 2025 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that renewable fuel developer Flying Forest has signed a letter of intent (LoI) for a long-term supply of sustainable aviation fuel to ATOBA Energy from its flagship project in Finland, which targets an output of 200,000 tons annually.

Located in Iisalmi, the SAF facility will be equipped with three production lines, with the first one expected to be operational by 2030. The site, which has potential for capacity expansion, will convert local wood waste into sustainable aviation fuel using advanced methanol-to-jet technology. The company has already sealed agreements with local sawmills for up to 3.75 million tons of sawmill co-products and non-commercial round wood annually, according to the report.

“This collaboration with ATOBA Energy builds the aligned ecosystem we need to drive innovation, catalyze investment, and accelerate SAF deployment globally,” said Flying Forest’s CEO Paul Groves.
