First green shipping corridor launched between China and France

February 4, 2026 |

In France, Haropa Port and Ningbo Zhoushan Port have signed a strategic agreement with MSC, TiL, Bureau Veritas, and Chinese maritime authorities to establish the first green shipping corridor linking China and France. The route connects Le Havre and Ningbo, anchoring the effort along the Seine Axis, which Haropa aims to position as a hub for zero-emission vessel operations.

The corridor includes plans for shore power deployment, terminal electrification, low-carbon hinterland links, and alternative fuel supply chains for options such as bio-LNG, green ammonia, and hydrogen. Onboard carbon capture pilots are also under review. Bureau Veritas will provide technical support and certification.

China accounts for 30 percent of Haropa’s container traffic, with Ningbo Zhoushan Port handling 22 percent of that volume. The partners say the agreement reflects practical steps toward implementing the IMO’s 2050 targets and builds on existing Franco-Chinese cooperation in maritime decarbonization.
