Everllence unveils dual-fuel ammonia engine for deep-sea shipping

November 20, 2025 |

In Copenhagen, engine maker Everllence introduced its two-stroke ME-LGIA engine on November 13, positioning ammonia not as a concept fuel but as a functional reality. Built on the firm’s dual-fuel Liquid Gas Injection platform, the new unit runs on ammonia using the Diesel principle and features a full safety suite tailored to ammonia’s toxicity, including double-walled piping and vapor sensors.

With first deliveries slated for early 2026 and pilot installations underway across vessels for Eastern Pacific Shipping, Höegh Autoliners, and a Japanese bulk carrier, Everllence is betting on market-ready credibility over speculative promise. More than 800 ammonia engine tests have been completed since 2023, including at MITSUI E&S in Japan, where the current prototype is under evaluation.

The engine’s digital backbone allows real-time monitoring, remote support, and data-driven optimization. CEO Uwe Lauber called the launch “a concrete step” toward zero-carbon shipping.

Everllence will begin commercial sales of ME-LGIA in multiple bore sizes, with retrofits to follow. Ammonia, with its high energy density, scalable production, and compatibility with two-stroke engines, now has a flagship platform. The combustion may be slow, but the rollout is moving fast.
