European Energy opens its first green hydrogen plant in Denmark

October 31, 2024 |

In the Netherlands, Offshore Energy reported that Danish renewables developer European Energy has officially opened its first green hydrogen facility in Måde, near Esbjerg, marking its first venture into large-scale hydrogen production using renewable energy. Following the completion of the construction in June this year and the commissioning phase, the facility is now operational with the first electrolyzer supplied by the Danish company Stiesdal, European Energy said. The company already plans to expand the facility with two electrolyzers, of which the next is expected to be installed in 2025, the report added. Once all three electrolyzers are operational, the plant will have a total capacity of 12MW and an expected annual production of 1,500 metric tons of hydrogen, it added. The green hydrogen produced at the Måde facility will be supplied to Port Esbjerg and an industrial gases company, with excess heat generated from the hydrogen production process to be utilized by DIN Forsyning, the local heating utility in Esbjerg municipality.
