European Energy, Mitsui bag debt for Danish e-methanol project

January 25, 2026 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that Danish renewable energy company European Energy A/S and its joint venture partner Mitsui & Co have secured debt financing for their solar-powered e-methanol complex in Kasso, Denmark.

The green-financing bridge facility was provided by Nordea and SMBC, with a partial guarantee from EIFO, the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark, European Energy said. The loan will enable the partners to enhance the short-term liquidity for their project and pave the way for “an active process” to raise long-term debt.

“The financing agreement supports operating and financing of e-methanol production in Denmark and contributes to the broader uptake of electrofuels among companies working to reduce emissions,” said Jens Peter Zink, deputy CEO of European Energy.

The Kasso site is a complex incorporating a photovoltaic (PV) park and a Power-to-X-facility that will produce e-methanol for industrial decarbonization applications, according to the report.
