In Estonia, the EER news agency reports oil major Orelex has been fined $6.3 million for going beyond the established used cooking oil biofuel blending limit in 2022, which was then discovered during an audit in 2023 by the Environmental Board (Keskkonnaamet). The company plans to appeal because it said it tried throughout 2023 to comply with the regulations it claims were ambiguous in 2022. The company was recently fined $315,000 by the Supreme Court for failing to reach its biofuel blending obligations in 2022.
