In Japan, Envision Energy and Marubeni Corporation signed a green ammonia offtake agreement aimed at supplying up to 1.5 million tons annually from Envision’s hydrogen-ammonia facility, marking what the companies describe as a global benchmark for green ammonia trade and accelerating Japan’s low-carbon energy transition.
The agreement links Envision’s full-stack green hydrogen-ammonia platform with Marubeni’s global energy trading networks, targeting industrial sectors such as chemicals and fertilizers. Envision’s plant, powered by co-located wind and solar, began initial production in early 2024 with 300,000 tons per year and will scale up fivefold upon full buildout. The plant is part of a net-zero industrial park model designed to optimize cost and reduce emissions through tightly integrated renewable power and storage systems.
“The global energy landscape is undergoing profound changes, with hydrogen-ammonia playing an increasingly pivotal role,” said Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy. “This partnership lays the groundwork for ammonia-powered transportation and electricity generation.”
The deal supports Japan’s green growth strategy while extending Envision’s ambitions across the Asia-Pacific. The company, recently named an “Energy Innovator” by Fortune, also received the Energy Transition Changemaker Award at COP28 for its contributions to decarbonization through large-scale hydrogen and ammonia projects.
