Enova to invest in hydrogen production projects in Norway

November 7, 2024 |

In the Netherlands, Offshore Energy reported that Enova has awarded over $70.92 million to five hydrogen production projects to boost the use of hydrogen in the Norwegian maritime industry. The aim of the support is to establish the first functioning value chain for hydrogen in Norway so that hydrogen can eventually become a more accessible and sustainable fuel, according to the report. “The projects that receive support will be part of a network of hydrogen producers along the Norwegian coastline, from Slagentangen in the southeast to Bodø in the north. This will make hydrogen more accessible to those who want to invest in sustainable shipping,” Nils Kristian Nakstad, CEO of Enova, said. These projects provide a total production capacity of 120 MW, which corresponds to approximately 40 tons of hydrogen per day, Enova claimed, adding that collectively, the projects that have received support under its initiative, now and in 2022, will contribute to an emission reduction of 200,000 tons of CO2 per year.
