In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that German energy supplier Energie Suedbayern (ESB) plans to build an electrolyzer and a hydrogen storage facility in the municipality of Hohenwart in southern Germany. In 2023, ESB and its unit Energienetze Bayern, together with local utility Thuega, converted an existing local gas grid with ten residential and one commercial customers to hydrogen as part of the H2Direkt project. Currently, the fuel is delivered by trailer, according to the report. The new phase of the project, H2Dahoam, marks the next step by establishing local hydrogen production, the report added. The planned electrolyzer will be built near the current injection facility and is expected to begin supplying hydrogen in 2027, the report added.
