Egypt inks Honeywell UOP license deal for first SAF project

December 9, 2025 |

In Egypt, the Egyptian government signed a production license agreement with US conglomerate Honeywell UOP to launch its first sustainable aviation fuel plant.

Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy oversaw the signing between the Egyptian Sustainable Aviation Fuel Company (ESAF), part of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), and Honeywell UOP. The project — to be built in Alexandria — will convert used cooking oil into as much as 120,000 tons of SAF annually, helping cut an estimated 400,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.

“This is the first project of its kind in Egypt and represents a new milestone in supporting the state’s transition to green energy,” Badawy said.

ESAF, established in 2024, is 85 % owned by state petroleum companies and 15 % by the private sector.
