Egypt denies giving away land at Suez Canal for $200M Qatari SAF project

December 31, 2025 |

In Egypt, the Egypt Independent newspaper reports that the Cabinet has rejected claims that the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone has conceded land in Sokhna to the Qatari company, Al-Mana Group, without financial or investment returns for the state in exchange for building the proposed $200 million sustainable aviation fuel project there. The Cabinet clarified that the land remains the property of the government, and the usufruct contract is a standard one that requires the company to pay the country annually for the use of the land.
