Decal seeks permission to expand port of Barcelona dock to allow SAF

May 22, 2025 |

In Spain, El Mercantil reports Decal has requested an extension of its concession in the port of Barcelona to install a new cargo arm. The move responds to the company’s willingness to manage biofuels and renewable fuels at its facilities, which wants to go in order to that goal. In the specific case of the arm, its incorporation is necessary because with it – the required transfer flows can be reached and that Decal cannot achieve with the equipment it currently has in its concession of the Catalan port.

In particular, an extension of 464,7 square meters is requested to the port authority, so that the arm can be installed between the storage infrastructures of Decal and the 32E mooring of the dock of the Energia. The connection will be made through the pipe which currently links the terminal to the cargoler located in the 32C dock of the same dock, which will last until 32E. Neither the port nor the company have made public, for the time being, the investment budget in the new structure. On the other hand, the publication that the port authority has made in the Official Gazette of the State (BOE) specifies that the new arm will be dedicated to the loading and unloading of renewable fuel for the aviation or SAF (sustainable aviation fuel).
