Dalian bunkers green methanol for COSCO

July 17, 2025 |

In China on July 13 at Dalian Port, China Marine Bunker (CMB) supplied 500 tons of domestically produced, bonded green methanol to COSCO’s first methanol dual-fuel ultra-large container ship, COSCO Shipping Yangpu.

The ISCC certified methanol was produced from waste biomass at facilities in Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia. The bunkering completes what CMB described as a closed-loop domestic supply chain from production to bunkering using Chinese ships and Chinese green fuel.

To enable the operation, CMB worked with eight local and national agencies to establish what it calls a “one-stop” regulatory model. Measures included combining bonded and export supervision warehouse functions and opening a direct port access corridor to streamline customs clearance and reduce handling costs. CMB aims to replicate the Dalian model across a growing green methanol bunkering network.
