In Costa Rica, El País reports the government will revive an old energy project to replace fossil fuels with biofuels. The initiative responds to a request to the Legislative Assembly by the country’s vice president, Stephan Brunner, to process the initiative on the energy transition of fuels presented more than a year ago.
The recovery of the so-called 24,079 project will replace, in a first stage, the use of diesel in the heavy transport sector with biomethane, a gas produced from the decomposition of organic agricultural, livestock and industrial waste, according to a press release.
The strategy, which includes the gradual displacement of diesel in different stages and different industries, has funds from the Joint Fund for Sustainable Development Goals and the Industrial Development Program, both of the United Nations.
