Corden BioChem moves forward with bringing Romanian ethanol plant back online

November 5, 2025 |

In Romania, Economica reports Corden BioChem bought this year the decommissioned Clariant bioethanol factory in Podari, Dolj County. Now the company could resume production of bioethanol, after the Competition Council authorized the takeover by the industrial giant of the firm that supplies the steam and electricity plant.

The Competition Council has authorized the transaction through which Corden BioChem Romania S.R.L., part of the German group International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG), will take over certain assets owned by Getec Energy Services S.R.L., a company that provided the Podari steam and electricity plant.

Following the operation, Corden BioChem intends to resume bioethanol production at the Podari plant (Dolj County) and develop new products in the field of biotechnology, thus strengthening Romania’s position on the European map of sustainable production.

The competition authority concluded, following the analysis, that the transaction does not raise significant obstacles to competition on the Romanian market and that there are no serious doubts about its compatibility with a normal competitive environment.
