In Belgium, CMB.TECH announced a major investment in China’s green ammonia supply chain on December 16, signing an offtake agreement with CEEC Hydrogen Energy for 158,000 tonnes of renewable ammonia annually from its Jilin Province project. The facility, powered by off-grid renewables and battery-backed hydrogen storage, received ISCC EU RFNBO certification earlier this month and is set to begin commercial operations in January 2026.
CMB.TECH also acquired a minority stake in Jiangsu Andefu Energy Technology, one of China’s largest ammonia logistics firms. The move strengthens ties across the ammonia fuel value chain as Andefu builds key storage terminals in Nanjing and Panjin. A 49,000 cubic meter refrigerated tank in Nanjing is expected online in early 2026, with ship-to-ship bunkering operations targeting launch the same year.
The announcement comes ahead of CMB.TECH’s delivery of 11 ammonia-powered vessels in 2026, including ten Newcastlemax bulkers and one container ship. All will run on dual-fuel diesel-ammonia engines.
“Today marks a big milestone in our decarbonisation journey,” said CEO Alexander Saverys. “With Chinese supply secured, we are ready to fuel our first ammonia-powered ships and prove that zero-emission maritime transport is possible now.”
