ClassNK rolls out fleet cost tool for decarbonization rules

July 17, 2025 |

In Japan, ClassNK introduced its new “Fleet Cost Simulation” service, designed to help shipping companies estimate the financial impact of greenhouse gas regulations including the IMO’s mid-term measures, EU-ETS, and FuelEU Maritime. The launch is part of ClassNK’s broader Transition Support Services initiative.

The service includes two main components: an Excel-based Fleet Cost Calculator and a PowerPoint-format Cost Estimation Report. The calculator models future cost scenarios by allowing users to adjust inputs such as fuel type, vessel replacement timing, and efficiency improvements. The report visualizes long-range cost projections through 2050 based on a company’s actual fuel consumption, regulatory exposure, and investment decisions.

ClassNK says the tool “significantly reduces workload for cost estimation and documentation,” and can be updated as rules evolve.
