China’s grain output hits new high in 2025

January 25, 2026 |

In China, China Daily reported that China recorded another bumper grain harvest last year, pushing output to a new high despite bouts of drought, flooding and prolonged rainfall in parts of the country.

Local grain production reached about 714.9 million tons in 2025, an increase of 8.4 million tons from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The output has stayed above 700 million tons for two consecutive years.

Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Zhang Xingwang attributed most of the production increase to autumn harvests, which accounted for more than 90% of the annual grain output growth.

Soybean output reached 20.91 million tons last year, remaining above 20 million tons for a fourth consecutive year, according to the report.
