China greenlights plan to blend biofuels for marine fuel

February 11, 2026 |

In China, ChemNet reports the Ministry of Commerce has greenlighted Zhoushan Biofuel Oil Blending Supervision Plan while allowing for marine biofuel blending and export. The country is trying to shift its reliance on imported biofuels for blending, building upon the 50,000 tons of biofuel bunkered last year compared to neighboring rivals like Singapore who bunkered 1.36 million tons of biofuel in 2025. Industry estimates show that by blending biofuel at Zhoushan could reduce bunkering fuel costs by $80 per ton.
