In Uzbekistan, Kun.uz reported that Chinese firm China Everbright started to build a waste-to-energy plant in Fergana, Uzbekistan.
The report noted that the waste-to-energy plant will be capable of processing 1,500 tons of garbage per day and generating 227.5 million kWh of electricity.
The $141.5 million project is expected to ease the pressure on local landfills and improve energy supply in the region. The plant will also create up to 400 new jobs.
The report also noted that the construction of the waste-to-energy plant in Fergana was approved by a presidential decree issued on 24 March this year. In total, six similar facilities are planned across Uzbekistan to convert waste into electricity, it added.
