China Delivers Green Ship for Norway Route

April 24, 2025 |

In China, Century New Energy Network reports state-owned SDARI and Sanfu Ship Engineering delivered the methanol-fueled container ship NCL NORDLAND to Norwegian Coastal Lines, completing a two-vessel series aimed at powering a zero-carbon shipping corridor in northern Europe.

The ship follows its sister vessel NCL VESTLAND, which has operated for nearly three months between ports in Norway and Rotterdam without reported fuel system failures. Both ships were designed in Shanghai and built for MPC Container Ships, with NCL serving as operator.

Described by the owners as “a model for green maritime transport” and “more safe, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly,” the vessels run on green methanol and are designed to reduce emissions during port calls through shore power integration.

The new vessel also carries certification for one-person bridge operation in narrow coastal waters, a requirement for Norway’s complex shoreline routes. SDARI said the design reflects its commitment to “innovation, sustainability, and customized solutions” for the global shipping industry.
