In Washington DC, World Grain reported that China has signed agreements to purchase wheat and sorghum from the United States.
The report noted that China has agreed to purchase two cargoes — one soft wheat and the other spring wheat — totaling 120,000 tons, marking its first purchase of US wheat in more than a year. China also will be receiving a shipment of sorghum from the United States, the report added.
The United States and China have been locked in a trade war since last spring that has significantly reduced US agricultural shipments to one of its most important trading partners. Last month, after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, it was announced that China had bought 12 million tons of soybeans and pledged to buy at least 25 million in each of the next three years. It was China’s first purchase of US soybeans in the 2025-26 marketing year and was far less than it typically buys in the fall, the report added.
