In Brazil, Agrolink reported that China blocked the import of 69,000 tons of soybeans from Brazil after finding wheat treated with pesticides in the ship transporting the soybean shipment to the Asian country.
In addition to the immediate blocking of the shipment, purchases of soybeans from five Brazilian units of large trading companies operating in the international market were also halted, according to the report.
The measure was taken by the General Administration of Customs of China and communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. Among the suspended units are two Cargill plants in São Paulo, as well as Louis Dreyfus and CHS Agronegócio facilities in the same state. The affected 3Tentos unit is located in Rio Grande do Sul. The sanctions only affect these plants, allowing other company facilities to continue exporting normally, the report added.
