In Canada, the Town of Esterhazy, Ecostrat and the BDO Zone Initiative announced the issue of an investment grade BDO Zone ‘A’ Rating for Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. The BDO Zone is rated for 31,700 bone dry tons per year of flax straw and extends within a 150-km driving distance from Esterhazy, SK. The rating was supported by funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Clean Fuels Fund.
Esterhazy’s ‘A’ rating indicates high prospective viability to support new biobased plant operations, with low risk associated with Feedstock Supply and Infrastructure in the Zone. The region features strong producer interest to support and supply flax straw projects, with no current competition for flax straw in the BDO Zone. Existing harvesting, collection, and transportation equipment can readily support the rated quantity without requiring scale-up. The region also highlights a positively rated infrastructure asset profile with public safety, healthcare, and land ownership systems.
