Busan Port highlights green fuel push at Expo

August 28, 2025 |

In Korea, on August 27, the Busan Port Authority opened its showcase at the World Climate Industry Expo 2025, running through August 29 at BEXCO in Busan. The agency is presenting its 2050 carbon neutrality roadmap and highlighting how sustainable marine fuels are reshaping port operations.

Busan began commercial methanol bunkering in November 2024 and LNG fuel supply in February 2025, positioning the port as a hub for alternative fuels as global carriers move to cleaner fleets. The authority is preparing shore power systems to support low-emission vessels and developing hydrogen infrastructure, including a refueling station for trucks at Busan New Port, in operation from April 2024.

To strengthen energy independence, over 35 megawatts of solar generation capacity have been installed across logistics support zones at Busan New Port. A newly built electric-powered port guide ship is undergoing trials and is expected to begin service by the end of the year, eliminating direct emissions from its operations.
