Brazil’s 2025/26 corn and soybean crop seen
In Brazil, the first survey for the 2025/26 grain crop indicates another growth cycle in Brazilian agriculture. According to the research conducted by the National Supply Company (Conab), the first estimate indicates a total production of 354.7 million tons of grain for the new crop, volume 0.8% higher than that obtained in 2024/25, and a growth in the area to be sown of 3.3% compared to the previous cycle, being estimated at 84.4 million hectares in the 2025/26 season. The data are in the 1st harvest survey of the new agricultural year, released last week by the state-owned company.
In this new cycle, there is an expectation of growth of 3.6% in the area sown for soybeans compared to 2024/25, estimated at 49.1 million hectares. With this, Conab estimates a harvest of 177.6 million tons in the 2025/26 harvest against the harvest of 171.5 million tons of the previous season. The precipitation occurred in September in the states of the Central-South of the country allowed the beginning of planting with 11.1% of the area already sown, an index slightly higher than that occurred until the same moment of the past cycle, In the largest soybean producing states in the country, Mato Grosso and Paraná, in the first 10 days of October, registered 18.9% and 31%, respectively, of the sown area.
Like soybeans, a larger area planted for corn is expected in 2025/26, and can reach 22.7 million hectares, with an expectation of production of 138.6 million tons added to the 3 crops of the grain. In the first harvest of the cereal alone, the Company foresees an increase in the area sown around 6.1%, with an estimated 25.6 million tons, a growth of 2.8% compared to the past harvest. In Rio Grande do Sul, where sowing begins from the end of August, on October 11, there were already 83% of the sown area, 84% in Paraná and 72% in Santa Catarina. Already in the Midwest and in the other states, the planting has not yet been started.
