In Brazil, BeNews reported that Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports is planning to expand the use of SAF in local airports following the recent announcement of theavailability of SAF at Salvador International Airport, in Bahia.
“SAF, the new aviation fuel, aligns with the environmental agenda. By 2027, we expect that at least 1% of Brazilian aviation will use aviation fuel, which is green fuel. We want to increasingly promote this fuel,” said Silvio Costa Filho, Minister of Ports and Airports.
The ministry wants to ensure that the Salvador experience is replicated in other strategic hubs, driven by the new regulatory and credit landscape created by the Federal Government.
“The world already sees Brazil as a window into this new green fuel, and we hope, perhaps in the future, to even export this new fuel. The effects have already begun to be felt,” stated Silvio Costa Filho.
For the expansion, the Ministry of Ports and Airports and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will rely on resources from the National Civil Aviation Fund (FNAC). The government has opened credit lines with competitive rates specifically for SAF development and production projects. The expectation is that new refineries and biorefining plants will come online, increasing the supply of fuel and reducing the final cost for airlines, according to the report.
