Brazilian associations panic over possible biodiesel imports

January 22, 2026 |

In Brazil, the Association of Biofuel Producers of Brazil, ABRA – Brazilian Association of Animal Recycling, ABIOVE – Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries, ACEBRA – Association of Cerealist Companies of Brazil, OCB – Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives, UBRABIO – Brazilian Union of Biodiesel and Bioquerosene and APROSOJA BRASIL – Brazilian Association of Biodiesel and Biojerosene – Brazilian Association of Biodiesel all share the concern about the negative impacts that the proposed measure to import biodiesels can generate on the national industry, regulatory predictability, investments already made and the legal certainty of the sector. They say Brazil has sufficient installed production capacity to meet the domestic demand, with high idleness, which removes any technical justification for the import of the product. The main raw material for biodiesel production is vegetable oils, which are already imported freely in Brazil, making it unnecessary and unproductive to directly import biodiesel.
