November 17, 2025 |

In Brazil, Abra Group, which brings together the airlines GOL, Avianca and Wamos Air, with Sumitomo Corporation of Brazil, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, a leading integrated and active trade company in various sectors through a global network, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the identification of industrial solutions aimed at the decarbonization of the air transport sector.

Under the MoU, Abra, which operates in Brazil through GOL, and Sumitomo will work together, allied to the governments of Brazil and Japan, to enable the implementation of a Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) agreement, a measure implemented by the Japanese government that finances decarbonization projects in partner countries, between Brazil and Japan, in accordance with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. The initiative is a first step towards a long-term supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) between Abra and Sumitomo.
