Brazil to vote on increasing ethanol blending to 30% on Wednesday

June 23, 2025 |

In Brazil, the Minister of Mines and Energy announced last week that he should include on the agenda of the next extraordinary meeting of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) the proposal to increase the anhydrous ethanol blend in gasoline from 27% to 30%. According to the minister, the meeting should be held later this month.

With this measure, the government intends to reduce the cost of gasoline for the end consumer, since ethanol has a lower cost. In addition, the initiative seeks to encourage the production of biofuels and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The measure became viable after the approval, last year, of the Fuel of the Future project, which allows the percentage of ethanol in gasoline to reach up to 35%.
