In Brazil, Noticias Agriculas reported that Brazil ends the year with concrete progress in the aviation energy transition, as the South American country already has the technical, productive, and regulatory capacity to meet the national demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2029.
The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, emphasized that the advancement of sustainable aviation fuel is crucial for positioning Brazil on the global agenda for decarbonizing air transport. “We are structuring a new market in the country, with planning, regulatory security, and investments that provide predictability to the sector. Domestic production of sustainable aviation fuel strengthens Brazilian industry, generates economic opportunities, and allows aviation to grow sustainably, in line with international environmental commitments,” stated the minister.
The Ministry of Ports and Airports has been acting as an active facilitator in the energy transition of the aviation sector. The objective is to facilitate this transition and promote the production of sustainable aviation fuels, according to the report.
To this end, the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Defense (MPor), together with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, created the Forum for Energy Transition in Civil Aviation (Fotea), an inter-ministerial committee focused on proposing public policies, coordinating actions and monitoring the SAF program.
