In Spain, Castellon Plaza reported that bp and Iberdrola have just injected $946,000 into Castellón Green Hydrogen, the joint venture created for the development of the first green hydrogen project undertaken by both companies. Both companies signed the agreement that kicked off this project in July. The strategic alliance between the two multinationals includes the construction of a 25 MW green hydrogen project at the bp refinery in Castelló, which is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026. The Castellón Green Hydrogen company was created in December 2023. For this project, bp has already requested a water concession from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) of 8,000 million liters of water per year necessary to launch the first phase of the project. The electrolyzer planned for this first phase, with a capacity of 25 MW, will be powered by renewable electricity from Iberdrola, which will supply 200 GWh per year from photovoltaic and wind projects, according to the report.
