In Brazil, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) estimates that the adoption of E30, a mixture of 30% of anhydrous ethanol in gasoline C, can eliminate much of Brazil’s dependence on the import of gasoline A. In 2024, gasoline imports amounted to 2.87 billion liters, a decline of about 30% compared to the previous year. “With E30, we ensured the dependence of 700 million liters of gasoline A,” said Pietro Mendes, secretary of Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels of the MME, during the special commission on energy transition and green hydrogen production of the Chamber of Deputies, on Tuesday (11/2). The replacement of this amount would correspond to 1.2 billion liters of ethanol, according to the secretary. According to the ANP, there is a capacity of about 6.9 billion liters of ethanol to come online later this year, driven by the increase in new corn ethanol projects. “We can get out of the external dependence on gasoline with an E30. We are very hopeful about that. And then, this [turns into] the generation of jobs, increase in income,” Mendes said.
