January 19, 2025 |

In Bulgaria, Renewables Now reported that the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has granted a $36.1 million loan to back the expansion of ethanol production and power generation from sugarcane biomass in Minas Gerais state.

The funds will enable local company Companhia Mineira de Acucar e Álcool (CMAA) to add up to 34 MW of installed capacity to biomass-fired power generation at the Vale do Pontal Acucar e Etanol S/A industrial unit. With the expansion, the facility will reach 68 MW, the report added.

Aside from the renewable energy project, the funds will make it possible to grow an ethanol-producing plant. The sugarcane-based facility is expected to have an additional production capacity of 85,000 cubic meters of anhydrous ethanol per year, for a total of 205,000 cubic meters, the report added.
