BNDES finances much of Bioo Paraná’s $37.71M biomethane plant

In Brazil, National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved and contracted financing in the amount of R$ 148.5 million for Bioo Paraná Holding S.A to build a biomethane plant in Toledo (PR), with a total expected investment of R$ 196 million. From the contracted financing, R$ 101.5 million comes from the Climate Fund and R$ 47.1 million from the Finem line.

The unit has a planned production capacity of 11 million cubic meters of biomethane per year, avoiding approximately 80,000 tons of CO2 emissions equivalent in the atmosphere. The project is expected to generate 210 direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase and 90 after its entry into operation.

In addition to biomethane, Bioo will produce organic matrix fertilizer, widely used in regional agriculture. Biogenic CO2, produced naturally in the plant process, will be purified for food grade and provided, for example, to the beverage industry, replacing fossil CO2. This integration directly contributes to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions and the decarbonization of the regional production chain.
