BNDES approves $21M credit line for Ciclus Ambiental Rio to produce biomethane from MSW

In Brazil, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved a credit line for financing in the amount of R$125.7 million for Ciclus Ambiental Rio SA With resources from the Climate Fund (R$88.0 million) and the Sanitation Line (R$37.7 million), Ciclus will expand the capacity of its Waste Treatment Center (CTR) in Seropédica (RJ).

Ciclus’ investment plan for the Rio CTR foresees a total investment of R$132.3 million for the expansion of the landfill and the increase in waste reception and disposal capacity to 11.4 thousand tons/day – currently, the site receives 10 thousand tons/day. The planned actions include: macro storm drainage works (conducting rainwater via drains); perimeter fencing (physical protection against invasions and entry of animals); implementation of a green belt (a strip of trees to protect neighboring areas from garbage particles and minimize odors and visual impact); construction of two new leachate storage lagoons with the capacity to accumulate a useful volume of 25,000 m³ each; installation of new additional measuring instruments for monitoring the landfill; contracting of topographic support services and technological testing of soils and blankets; development of technical projects (basic/executive) and support for environmental licensing.
