Bio-LNG volumes up sixfold in Rotterdam

February 11, 2026 |

In the Netherlands, the Port of Rotterdam reported that vessels bunkered 17,644 cubic meters of bio-LNG in 2025, more than six times the 2,775 cubic meters recorded in 2024, as total LNG volumes exceeded 1 million cubic meters for the first time.

Overall marine fuel bunkering reached 9.8 million tonnes, up by 3,000 tonnes year on year. Biomethanol volumes also increased sharply to 11,819 tonnes, compared with 3,946 tonnes the previous year.

Total volumes of bioblended fuels declined 14 percent compared with 2024. The downturn began in the second half of 2024 after the European Union imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese biodiesel, which redirected supply toward Asian markets and reduced availability in Europe. From the third quarter of 2025, however, bioblend volumes in Rotterdam began to recover.
