February 5, 2025 |

In the UAE, TA’ZIZ awarded a $1.7 billion EPC contract to Samsung E&A on February 3 to construct one of the world’s largest methanol plants in Al Ruwais Industrial City, Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi, aiming to boost the UAE’s chemical industry and economic diversification. The 1.8 million tons per annum facility will be the country’s first methanol production plant and is set to come online in 2028, powered by clean grid energy.

“This landmark EPC contract award is a significant step in realizing TA’ZIZ’s vision to drive the UAE’s industrial growth by creating a world-scale integrated chemicals ecosystem in Al Dhafra region,” said Mashal Saoud Al-Kindi, CEO of TA’ZIZ.

SAMSUNG E&A’s President and CEO, Hong Namkoong, noted, “SAMSUNG E&A is honored to receive this recognition, highlighting TA’ZIZ’s and our commitment to driving industrial innovation, diversifying the UAE’s economy, and enabling sustainable growth.”

TA’ZIZ plans to produce 4.7 million tons of chemicals annually by 2028, including low-carbon ammonia, polyvinyl chloride, and caustic soda. The project strengthens the UAE’s chemicals sector, marking a step toward industrial self-sufficiency while reinforcing ADNOC’s broader ambitions in global chemical markets.
