In Singapore, Berge Bulk announced together with BHP the completion of the first-ever iron ore voyage from Australia to China powered entirely by B100 biodiesel on the Berge Lyngor, a Newcastlemax bulk carrier.
The biodiesel, made from vegetable oil, animal fat, and waste cooking oil, was bunkered before the voyage and marks Berge Bulk’s first use of B100 biodiesel on this trade route. The company has previously tested biodiesel blends, such as B30 and B50, on routes from Europe and North America.
BHP supported the voyage, aligning with its broader efforts to optimize shipping operations. Berge Bulk, meanwhile, continues to diversify its fuel options, with plans for ammonia-powered ships to be delivered by 2027 and ongoing participation in methanol research initiatives.
