B100’s bargain, LBM’s edge

August 7, 2025 |

In Singapore, Engine Online reports that B100 remains the most cost-effective liquid fuel for EU-to-EU voyages, driven by Dutch HBE subsidies and FuelEU Maritime surplus pooling. Priced at $597 per ton, B100 is $95 cheaper than HSFO, $158 less than VLSFO, and $293 below LSMGO.

For owners banking compliance credits, B100 offers a compelling case. But it is not the cheapest. Liquefied biomethane, when used in diesel slow-speed engines on EU-EU routes edges ahead at a $95 discount to B100.

That advantage disappears beyond the bloc. Like B100, LBM’s value depends heavily on European incentives. Outside EU-to-EU trade, both fuels lose ground.

In Singapore, B100 is priced at $1,113 per ton for voyages to the EU. That is more than double the cost of HSFO. Supply remains limited, and only half the emissions and energy count toward EU compliance. Uptake has been minimal, with just 7,000 tons sold out of the port in the first half of the year.
