Austria unveils hydrogen roadmap

September 18, 2025 |

In the UK, Fuel Cells Works reported that Austria is launching a comprehensive hydrogen initiative with the aim of ensuring a timely security of supply, create jobs, and strengthen the competitiveness of the industry.

The report noted that the initiative focuses on developing a hydrogen import strategy, new subsidies for electrolysis plants, and the development of storage and pipeline infrastructure.

“Hydrogen is not just an energy source, it is an economic project for the future. With our import strategy, we are securing timely supply and competitiveness, creating the basis for new jobs, and opening up new markets. At the same time, we are now laying the foundations for tomorrow’s storage and infrastructure – for a strong industrial base and a secure energy supply in Austria,” emphasizes Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer.

Around 5,800 jobs in Austria are already directly secured by hydrogen-related activities. According to a study by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO), up to 300,000 employees are indirectly employed in companies linked to hydrogen technologies.
