In Finland, Auramarine has been selected to deliver methanol fuel supply systems for three new Finnlines vessels, supporting the operator’s shift toward alternative marine fuels. The ships are scheduled to enter service on the Finland to Germany route beginning in 2028.
Finnlines’ next generation RoPax ships will run on multi fuel engines designed to use methanol. The vessels will also incorporate energy saving technologies including shore power readiness, waste heat recovery, and improved hull and propeller design. Shipbuilding will take place at China Merchants Weihai Shipyard.
Auramarine’s systems will enable safe and efficient methanol handling onboard and include fuel supply, control, and safety automation. Equipment deliveries to the shipyard are expected in late 2026 and early 2027.
“This forward looking project supports the transition to new sustainable fuels,” said Auramarine CEO John Bergman. “We are fully committed to helping our customers advance their decarbonization journey regardless of regulatory delays.”
Finnlines’ Juha Ahia called the collaboration a reflection of the company’s commitment to innovation and said Auramarine’s solutions would play a key role in reducing fleet emissions.
The project signals continued momentum for methanol as a marine fuel and the growing industrial capacity to support its adoption.
