In Sweden, on June 16, AtoB@C Shipping took delivery of Biomar, the seventh in a twelve-vessel series of 5,400 dwt plug-in hybrid ships ordered from Indian shipbuilder Chowgule & Company, and began construction of the final vessel, Luxomar, the next day.
“We are thrilled to welcome Biomar into our fleet. With each new vessel, we are building a greener future for shortsea shipping in Europe,” said Frida Rowland, Commercial Director. The newbuild joins a growing fleet aimed at reducing emissions while maintaining year-round service across Scandinavia, the UK, and Central Europe. All vessels in the series are Ice Class 1A and designed for shortsea bulk and breakbulk transport under industrial contracts.
Construction of Luxomar began June 17 with a steel-cutting ceremony, while Ventumar, the eighth vessel, was launched on May 30 and is currently being outfitted for delivery later in 2025. The full series is scheduled for quarterly delivery through autumn 2026.
Each vessel includes a 1,000 kWh battery system, hybrid propulsion, and complies with ShipRight ECO class notations. AtoB@C, part of ESL Shipping, operates more than 40 vessels ranging from 4,000 to 25,000 dwt across its combined fleet.
