Argentina advances in soybean varieties identification using optical markers

August 17, 2025 |

In Canada, SeedWorld reported that the Argentine Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries approved the use of optical markers for varietal identification of soybean samples. This new tool allows for the identification or verification of soybean varieties through real-time image processing using artificial intelligence. It allows for determining the predominant varieties in a sample, along with their respective percentages. The analyses will be performed by INASE’s Central Seed Analysis Laboratory and by authorized laboratories within the Territorial System of Seed Analysis Laboratories (SiTeLAS).

The Argentine Seed Association (ASA) emphasized that this new step “continues to contribute technology for the verification of varietal identity” and reaffirmed its commitment to extending these methods to other crops in the country’s productive matrix.
