ANP OKs Brazil’s first wheat-based ethanol plant

In Brazil, Agencia Estado reports National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has authorized CB Bioenergia, located in Santiago (RS), to start operations for wheat ethanol production. The release was published last Thursday, 8, in the Official Gazette of the Union.

The plant is the first in the country authorized to produce biofuel from wheat. CB Bioenergia expects to produce 100 tons of the cereal per day and generate up to 12 million liters of hydrated ethanol per year. In the first phase of the project, about R$ 100 million was invested for the construction.

By 2027, the company projects to generate between 45 and 50 million liters of per year, with the expansion of the Santiago unit, which would require additional contributions that amount to R$ 500 million.
